Nadarajah came to America in 1992 with three years of study at the Malaysian Institute of Art and one year of design experience. She applied to several U.S. universities, noting that she and her best friend, Michael Ong, also from Kuala Lumpur, decided on UCM based on the strength of the art department and the campus’ proximity to Kansas City.
A Personal and Professional Inspiration
While striving to succeed on her own, she has impressed many people. Steve Wood, Bernstein-Rein vice president and creative team leader, noted, “Suba has time and again made not only the work better, but also the people she works with better — by example, by encouragement and by education.”
In addition to her work at Bernstein-Rein, Nadarajah has taught classes at Avila University, had her photography and designs exhibited in galleries, presented frequent talks to students at KC area universities and mentored young design professionals. Just a few of her professional honors are several Kansas City Omni awards, National Telly Awards, American Advertising Federation Addy’s Gold Award and London International Advertising Award.
UCM Built Confidence
Nadarajah said she looks back on her experience at UCM with much fondness. “I learned a lot about being an individual not only as a person, but as an artist and a designer,” said Nadarajah. “[UCM] really helped me be confident about who I am.”
