The Department of Art & Design offers two basic undergraduate majors: a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and a Bachelor of Science in Art Education. The BFA is intended for students interested in careers in Studio Art, Graphic Design, Illustration , or Interior Design. Students interested in teaching art at the elementary or secondary level will pursue the Bachelor of Science in Art Education.
The Department of Art & Design also offers two minors. One is for students seeking a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree. The Art Minor, Bachelor of Science in Education Degree is only for those majoring in either Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or Special Education. Those who complete this art education minor in conjunction with one of the three major area programs listed above can receive certification to teach art in grades K-9. The Art Minor for Bachelor's Degree serves students seeking a Bachelor's degree in an area other than education. It requires a different set of courses as listed in the catalog and does not lead to teaching certification. The department also offers support for Master's of Art in Teaching candidates seeking K-12 certification in art.
