Portfolio Scholarship Application: Incoming Freshman and Transfer
Based on electronic portfolio review utilizing the Picasa Google website, the UCM Department of Art & Design offers merit-based achievement scholarships to incoming first time students: Freshman and Transfer Students. The amount offered per scholarship varies according to the potential shown by the strength of the portfolio. It is awarded for both the fall and spring semesters of the first year a student attends UCM while majoring in a program within the Department of Art & Design.
To be considered for these scholarships you must:
(1) Create good quality digital images of your work (10-20 pieces)
(2) Upload the images of your work and establish an electronic portfolio on the Picasa website
(3) Complete and submit the electronic application form (make sure to correctly copy the URL for your Picasa portfolio into the form). The deadline for application is March 1 of each year.
(4) Major in one of the programs offered by the UCM Department of Art & Design, enrolling each semester of your first year in a minimum of six credit hours (2 classes) of courses offered by the Department of Art & Design (course prefix of ART).
THE PORTFOLIO
Include your best work. The following is given as a guide for what to include in a portfolio:
- Fifteen to twenty works total is suggested for submissions.
- Eight to ten drawings using a variety of drawing media (pencil, charcoal, conte crayon, etc.). Include examples from real life such as still life and figure drawing (not from photographs).
- Additional examples of work in categories such as painting, pastel, design, printmaking and digital images may be included.
- Images of 3-D work in sculpture and/or ceramics can be included. You may include multiple views of 3-D work in order to best show the form of the work.
- Though photography is in the School of Technology rather than in the Department of Art & Design, you may include examples of your photographs in order to show your design ability and ability to work with concepts.
**NOTE: A change in declared major and/or failure to take and pass at least six credit hours of Art & Design courses each semester during the year the scholarship is awarded will result in the rescinding of the scholarship so that it may be awarded to another student majoring in art or design.
