Assistantship Job Descriptions

While graduate assistants are expected to work together as a team on many projects, there are several different types of positions. All are sure to further develop you as an individual and a professional. There are two Graduate Assistant packages.


Full Assistantships
[

Full Assistantships with Required Campus Housing

[Student Activities, Student Recreation & Wellness Center, University Housing, Greek Life]

    Full Assistantship

  1. Office of Admissions (opening Fall 2014)
    Work to assist the Assistant Director of New Student Programs in the effective functioning of the Campus Visit Office and on campus events. Train, lead, and evaluate student staff members in the Campus Visit Office as well as work closely with the Student Ambassadors Program in the promotion and marketing of the University of Central Missouri to prospective students, their families and other external groups with an interest in UCM.  A more detailed job description is available.
  2. Gateway Center (opening Fall 2014)
    Advise and assist students in the development and pursuit of academic programs which maximize their abilities and interests. Aid students in developing personal, professional, and career goals that are challenging, worthwhile, and realistic, and to plan programs that achieve these goals.   3. Suspension Waiver Program (opening Fall 2014)
    Work directly with the Coordinator of Mentoring, Advocacy and Peer Support. Supervises academic progress of probationary students and student athletes. A more detailed job description is available.
  4. Mentorship Program (opening Fall 2014)
    This program pairs upper-class student mentors with first-year students from traditionally underrepresented populations. Mentors provide their mentees with support, resources and guidance as they transition to college life. A detailed job description is available.
  5. LGBTQ (opening Spring 2014)
    Serve as a mentor and advocate for LGBTQ students while assisting with campus-wide educational initiatives, communication and understanding of LGBTQ issues. A detailed job description is available.


    Full Assistantship with Required Housing

  1. Residence Hall Director (opening Fall 2014)
    Provide leadership and direction to all students and staff living in the residence halls. Responsible for student staff supervision, training and development, hall council advising, outreach and counseling of residence hall students and problem solving within the hall. These positions report directly to the Assistant Director of Housing.  A more detailed job description is available.

  2. Residence and Greek Life (opening Fall 2015)
    Advise one of the three governing boards (IFC, NPHC, NPC). Additional opportunity to advise one of the two Judicial Boards or Order of Omega. Work with student groups in the areas of leadership development, Rush, and Greek Week.  A more detailed job description is available.
  3. Residence and Greek Life Marketing (opening Fall 2015)
     Assist in assessment and design of market research instruments to determine effectiveness of current residence and Greek life initiatives and to help determine residence and greek life student needs. Assist in the supervision of the layout and the design of promotional materials for residence and greek life. Assist in the development of promotional campaigns.   4. Student Involvement (opening Fall 2015)
    Assist with all-campus programming initiatives. Work with student organizations to prepare funding requests, and assist in advising Program Council. A more detailed job description is available.
  5. Volunteer Services (opening Fall 2015)
    Plan and coordinate late night activities in the evening and on the weekends. Assist with volunteer service activities. A more detailed job description is available.
  6. Leadership Development (opening Fall 2014)
    Serve as a resource for student organizations in areas of leadership, organizational issues, and campus facilities.  A more detailed job description is available.
