Mules’ Steve McReynolds signs with River City Rascals

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Lefthander Steve McReynolds became the third member of the 2004 Central Missouri State University baseball team to sign a professional contract when he inked with the River City Rascals of the independent Frontier League.

McReynolds earned first-team All-MIAA and All-Central Region honors in 2004 after going 8-0 with a 2.45 earned run average and 71 strikeouts in 62.1 innings pitched. He made 14 appearances on the year with 12 starts and held opposing batters to a .223 batting average, all while battling a foot injury in the final month of the season that prevented him from conditioning between starts.

A native of Odessa, Mo., McReynolds transferred to Central Missouri after his sophomore year at Rockhurst University. Used as a reliever in 2003, he helped the Mules when the national championship by throwing 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relieve in extra innings to help CMSU defeat Kennesaw State in the semifinals.

The Rascals, out of O’Fallon, Mo., are currently 10-11 for the season.

McReynolds joins Steve Sharpe (righthanded pitcher selected in the 11^th round by the Oakland A’s) and Francisco Leandro (outfielder chosen in the 24^th round by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays) on professional rosters.
