Mules’ Steve McReynolds signs with River
City Rascals
(WARRENSBURG,
Mo.) – Lefthander Steve McReynolds became the third
member of the 2004 Central Missouri State University baseball team to sign a professional contract when he
inked with the River City Rascals of the independent Frontier League.
McReynolds earned first-team All-MIAA and All-Central
Region honors in 2004 after going 8-0 with a 2.45 earned run average and 71
strikeouts in 62.1 innings pitched. He
made 14 appearances on the year with 12 starts and held opposing batters to a
.223 batting average, all while battling a foot injury in the final month of
the season that prevented him from conditioning between starts.
A native of Odessa, Mo., McReynolds transferred to Central
Missouri after his sophomore year
at Rockhurst University. Used as a reliever
in 2003, he helped the Mules when the national championship by throwing 3 1/3
innings of scoreless relieve in extra innings to help CMSU defeat Kennesaw
State in the semifinals.
The Rascals, out of O’Fallon, Mo., are currently 10-11 for the season.
McReynolds joins Steve Sharpe (righthanded
pitcher selected in the 11th round by the Oakland A’s) and Francisco Leandro
(outfielder chosen in the 24th round by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays) on
professional rosters.
