Eight sign to play baseball at CMSU in 2007

The Mules coaching staff has signed eight junior college and high school prospects to compete for the Cardinal & Black in 2007Signed to join the Mules in 2006-07 are:

Peter Davenport - 6-foot-5, 215 pound righthanded pitcher from Johnson County Comm. College

Davenport went 5-2 with a 3.20 earned run average as a freshman at Johnson Count Community College in Overland Park, Kan. A graduate of Lexington (Mo.) High School where he lettered three times on the diamond, he earned Missouri Class 2A All-State honors as a senior. He finished his career as Lexington High's all-time leader in wins, strike outs, and ERA, and added three letters in football and four in basketball. The son of Carol McLaughlin, he plans to major in education.

Luis Perez - 6-foot, 200 pound catcher from Western Nebraska Community College

A native of Valencia, Venezuela, where he graduated from Colegio "Padre Seijas", he was a first-team all-region pick as a freshman last spring at Western Nebraska. He also played for the Venezuelan National Team in 2002. The son of Alfredo and Gisela Perez, he will major in pre-physical therapy.

Alex Kent - 6-foot-1, 170 pound shortstop from Lee's Summit (Mo.) North High School

Kent, the son of Steve and Therese Kent, earned all-conference honors as a junior shortstop at Lee's Summit North. In 2004 he helped lead his prep team to a conference title, and in 2004 and 2005 he was an American Legion fifth district All-Star Team selection.

Ronnie Martin - 6-foot-2, 205 pound lefthanded pitcher from St. Louis C.C.-Forest Park

A 17th round draft pick of the Detroit Tigers coming out of high school, he appeared in 15 games as a freshman at Forest Park, notching 100 strikeouts in 81.2 innings pitched with a 5.07 ERA. He redshirted in 2005. A graduate of St. Mary's High School in St. Louis, he was first-team all-state as a senior.

Brett Nightingale - 6-foot-1, 215 pound righthanded pitcher/third baseman from Fort Scott C.C.

Nightingale transferred this year to Fort Scott from Connors State College. After redshirting in 2004, he went 8-1 with an ERA under 2.00 last spring. Prior to enrolling at Fort Scott, Nightingale was a four-year all-conference pick at Sapulpa (Okla.) High School. An all-state pick as a senior, he boasts a perfect game on his high school pitching resume. He also lettered four years in football, earning all-conference honors three times and all-state accolades as a senior, and three times in basketball. He is the son of Mike and Deanna Nightingale and expects to major in business at CMSU.

Daniel Potje - 6-foot-4, 175 pound lefthanded pitcher from Fox High School in Arnold, Mo.

Potje was a first-team all-district and second-team all-conference pick at Fox High School. He also earned all-tournament team honors as a junior pitcher and outfielder, and tacked on a letter in basketball. He is the son of John and Karen Potje.

Clay Weatherford - 6-foot, 175 pound outfielder from Itawamba Community College

Weatherford batted .380 with five home runs, three triples, and 26 stolen bases as a freshman at Itawamba. He helped lead ICC to a regional title, a third place finish in the state, and a second place finish in the division. Itawamba was also third in the Super Regional. A graduate of Itawamba High School in Fulton, Miss., the son of Ted and Lynette Weatherford was 4A all-state, all-division, and all-area as a senior after batting .475 with five home runs, 15 doubles, and six triples. The son of Ted and Lynette Weatherford, he helped lead Itawamba High to a pair of division titles and as a senior helped lead his legion team to a state championship. Weatherford will major in business at CMSU.

Kris Webber - 6-foot-3, 195 pound righthanded pitcher from Bossier Parish C.C.

Webber redshirted as a true freshman in 2005, but is expected to be Bossier Parish's No. 1 starter this spring. The son of Dan and Sharon Webber, graduated from Walnut Grove Secondary School in Langley B.C., where he lettered in both football and baseball.
