MULES DO WELL IN FINAL DIVISION II BASEBALL STATISTICS

WARRENSBURG, MO (July 17, 2001) - The level of Central Missouri State's success in the 2001 baseball season is reflected in the final NCAA Division II baseball statistics released this week. Coach Brad Hill's Mules, who finished second at the Division II Championship, had the most wins (53) in Division II and the best winning percentage (.841).

Individually, Division II Player of the Year Chris Umphres was 13th in batting average (.448) and eighth in RBI average (1.44 per game). Clabe Gaines was tied for 10th in triples per game (0.15). Craig Ringe was fourth in runs per game (1.41) and his total of 89 runs scored was tied for the most in Division II. P.J. McGinnis was tied for first in wins (14) and Corey Clinefelter was sixth in wins (13).

In the team statistics, the Mules ranked 12th in batting (.349), 10th in pitching ERA (3.59) and tied for 11th in fielding percentage (.963). They were one of just two Division II schools to be ranked in the top 15 in each of those three categories; Texas Lutheran, which was 30-9, was the other school. The Mules were ninth in scoring average (8.98), 18th in slugging percentage (.526), 12th in triples per game (0.44) and third in stolen bases per game (2.49). Their total of 157 stolen bases was the second-highest in Division II.
