Mules take second at MIAA Golf Championships

The Central Missouri State University golf team placed second at the MIAA Conference Championships, held Monday and Tuesday at the Country Club of Blue Springs.

The Mules fired a two-day total 898 (291-299-308). Washburn University won the tournament with an 886 (293-294-299), and Missouri Western State College was third with a 902 (295-296-310). Central Missouri State’s 291 in the opening round was the best score of the tournament.

Washburn finishes the season as the MIAA Champion, while CMSU is second.

Freshman Jon Sauer was the Mules’ top finisher, as he was third with a 222 (72-75-75). Adam Frank also was a medalist, firing a 224 (68-76-80). His 68 in the first round was the low round for the tournament.

Jaron Rose shot a 229 to tie for 13th (78-77-75), Danny Markham shot a 232 (79-74-79) to share 15th, and Kyle Hattock carded a 233 (73-78-82) to tie for 17th. Competing as an individual, Mike Robben tied Markham for 15th with a 232 (82-76-74).

The Mules are next in action at NCAA Super Regionals, May 1-4 at St. Joseph, Mo.
