Jennies clamp down late for 70-66 win over Lady Bearcats
Sophomore Lindsey Maple scored 22 points for the second time in four days, but this time the Central Missouri State Jennies came away with a 70-66 come-from-behind victory over Southwest Baptist in Bolivar Tuesday night.
The opening period saw 10 ties and four lead changes with CMSU turning the ball over 13 times and SBU making 14 miscues. Tiffany Vincent and Maple led the Jens with eight points apiece while the Lady Bearcats had three players with six. The Jennies led 31-30 with 20 seconds left in the period but Kim Battle was called for a foul with only two seconds remaining and Kristina Salschneider hit both free throws to give SBU the lead going into the break. The Bearcats shot a blistering 57.1 percent (12-of-21) in the half with CMSU hitting 40.7 percent (11-of-27) of its attempts.
The second stanza went back and forth until the Lady Bearcats took control and grabbed a nine-point lead at the 8:35 mark. The Jennies would answer with a 13-0 run in the next three minutes to grab the lead and take the advantage for good. The CMSU defense held SBU to only two points in over seven minutes of action to claim the victory. The Jennies used a 30-to-23 rebound advantage and hit 18-of-22 free throws in the outing.
Vincent finished the game with 18 points while Maple led the Jens in boards with six. Anna Rorvig had seven assists to only one turnovers and snagged four steals to pace CMSU.
The Lady Bearcats were led by Casey Beavers and Livia Brito with 15 points apiece while Cortney Shewmaker hit for 13.
