First half run helps Jennies cruise past Lincoln
The Central Missouri State Jennies used a 31-0 first half run to cruise past the Lincoln Blue Tigers by an 85-33 margin on Wednesday night in their season opener. The opening period saw the Blue Tigers jump out to an 8-4 lead but the Jens rattled off 31 straight points and 16 Blue Tiger turnovers to go into the break up 41-21. Tiffany Vincent (Overland Park, Kan.) led the charge in the period with 11 points while Lindsey Maple (Knob Noster, Mo.) poured in 10.
The second stanza may have been more impressive as the Jens held Lincoln to only 12 points. Kim Battle (Cordele, Ga.) led the Jennies defense with seven steals while Vincent snagged four from the Blue Tigers. CMSU opened the half on a 31-6 run sparked by 10 points from Melissa Richardson (Paola, Kan.) and nine from Meagan Fromm (Memphis, Mo.). The 52-point margin was the biggest since the Jennies defeated Friends University by 53 in 1999.
Vincent led the Jens with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Ashley Millham (Jackson, Mo.) dished out a team-high seven assists and had no turnovers. Maple finished with 16 while Fromm and Richardson each had 13.
