Jennies fall to top ranked Washburn, 76-63
The Central Missouri State Jennies saw their nine game winning streak snapped on senior day by top ranked Washburn, 76-63. The Jennies concluded the regular season winning nine of their final ten games.
CMSU (19-8, 11-5 MIAA) found it tough to score against the Lady Blue defense in the opening stanza. Washburn (27-0, 16-0 MIAA) held the Jennies to just 23 points on 8-of-26 attempts (30.8 percent) from the floor. The Jens and Lady Blues were tied 11-11 with under 12 minutes remaining before WU retook the lead for good, courtesy of a 24-12 run to head into the break up 35-23. Lindsey Maple led CMSU in scoring with eight points in the half, while Jennifer Harris led Washburn with 18, answering every Jennies run with a bucket of her own..
The Jens started the second stanza on a 11-4 run to pull within five, but the Lady Blues answered right back with a 7-0 run of their own to stretch the lead back to 46-34. CMSU closed to within 69-63 on a Maple three-pointer with just over a minute left. It was as close as the Jennies would get though, as Washburn connected on five-of-six from the foul line to ice the game.
Maple led four Jennies in double figures with 14 points, Melissa Richardson dropped in 13, Kara Rewerts contributed 11, and Tiffany Vincent finished with 10. Richardson and Vincent each pulled down nine rebounds to lead CMSU and Anna Rorvig tied her career high in assists with seven.
Harris scored a game high 35 points and dished out eight assists to lead the Lady Blues, Brooke Ubelaker scored 14, and Amanda Holmes finished with 10. April Roadhouse grabbed six boards to lead Washburn. The Lady Blues extended their winning streak to 46 games in a row second best ever in NCAA-II.
