Jennies press past Mesa State, 82-51
The Jennies forced 29 Mesa State turnovers and never trailed on their way to an 82-51 victory at the Candlewood Suites/Mix 104.9 Classic in Emporia, Kan. Friday night.
Central Missouri had five players in double figures and turned the ball over only 10 times in the outing. The Jennies were tied 4-4 early but went on a 15-1 run and took control of the game with 11 minutes to go in the opening period. The Mavericks would get no closer than seven points before going into the half trailing 36-26. CMSU put the game out of reach by scoring the first nine points of the second half. Kara Rewerts (St. Joseph, Ill.) scored five of her 14 points during the stretch and hit one of her team-high four three pointers. Ashley Millham (Jackson, Mo.) continued her solid play as she scored 11 points and led the team in assists with six. She has 13 assists this in the first two games and has not committed a single turnover. By the eight minute mark, the Jens were up by 30 and just coasting to victory. Tiffany Vincent (Overland Park, Kan.) led the team with nine boards and six steals on the night and tied Rewerts for the team lead in points with 14. Also hitting double figures as a Jenny for the first time was Cydney Franklin (Bellvue, Neb.) with 12 and Kim Battle (Cordele, Ga.) with 10.
