Jennies extend win streak to seven,

defeating Southwest Baptist, 80-47

 

After a sluggish opening 10 minutes the Jennies turned up the heat on the defensive end to blow past Southwest Baptist, 80-47 at the Multipurpose Building.

The first ten minutes was tight as neither team had more than a three point lead. SBU (10-14, 2-11 MIAA) grabbed a 24-18 lead with less than six minutes remaining but after that it was all CMSU (17-7, 9-4 MIAA). The Jens closed the half on a 19-4 run to head into the locker room up 37-28. Lindsey Maple scored 10 of her 13 points in the stanza to lead the Jennies.

The second period saw CMSU turn up the defensive intensity, forcing seven Bearcat turnovers and holding SBU scoreless for over seven minutes. The Jens expanded their lead with a 25-11 run. Anna Rorvig led the Jens with nine points and Tiffany Vincent added eight in the second frame.

The Jennies shot 42.4 percent in the second half with 20 of their points coming in the paint and 11 from the free-throw line. SBU was held to 21.4 percent from the field (6-for-28) and made 7-of-10 from the foul line. CMSU outscored the Bearcats 43-19 in the second frame and out rebounded SBU by a 30-to-14 margin.

Cydney Franklin and Vincent led five Jens in double figures with 15 points apiece, Rorvig dropped in 14, Maple contributed 13, and Melissa Richardson added 10. Franklin led CMSU with nine rebounds and Rorvig dished out five assists.

Southwest Baptist was paced by Casey Beavers and Livia Brito with 10 points each while Traci Bybee added 7.
