Jennies go 1-1 in Cameron Classic
The Jennies basketball squad never trailed on their way to an 83-69 win over Central Oklahoma on Friday. In the rematch against Cameron on Saturday, however, they allowed 27 points in the final 9:02 to drop their first game of the season, 80-77.
Senior Anna Rorvig (Columbia, Mo.) led the Jennies (4-1) against the Bronchos with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds as they opened the game on a 12-4 run and never looked back. Central Missouri went into the break with a 37-28 lead despite shooting 36 percent from the floor.
Central Oklahoma cut the lead to five with 15:43 remaining in the second period but the Jens pushed it to 19 by the 5:04 mark. The CMSU defense forced 25 turnovers and held the Bronchos leading scorer, Meghan Craig, to only six points. Lindsey Maple (Knob Noster, Mo) was the leading scorer for the Jennies with 17 while Cydney Franklin (Bellvue, Neb.) tallied 15 points. Meagan Fromm (Memphis, Mo.) was also in double figures with 13. In the final game of the classic, the Jennies took on Cameron for the second time this season and it looked like they would roll to a second victory as they led by as many as 16 but a second half run from CU saw the game slip away. Central Missouri allowed only 28 points in the first half but the Lady Aggies scored 52 in the second stanza.
CMSU committed a season-high 22 turnovers in the outing and shot a season-low 37.9 percent from the field compared to the Lady Aggies 50.9 shooting performance. Cameron had four players in double figures including leading scorers Joneatta Brown and Brittany Cooksey with 17 points apiece.
The Jens were led by Fromm and Maple with 12 points each while Kara Rewerts (St Joseph, Ill.) and Tiffany Vincent (Overland Park, Kan.) each had 11 in the outing.
