Jennies steal win from Truman in overtime



            Senior Tiffany Vincent had 18 points after halftime to help the Jennies survive a 77-71 overtime scare over the Bulldogs of Truman State at home Wednesday night.

           Central Missouri (9-4, 2-1 MIAA) took control of the game at the 14:56 mark of the opening period and built its lead to as much as 15 points before the break. Meagan Fromm led all scorers at the break with eight points while Cydney Franklin pulled down six boards to top the Jennies. The Bulldogs (7-5, 0-3 MIAA) hit a shot with 26 seconds left to cut the lead to 38-25 going into halftime.

           The second stanza was a different story as Truman forced 9 Central Missouri turnovers and opened the half on a 22-10 run to get within one by the 9:46 mark. The two teams went back and forth for the next three minutes until the Bulldogs grabbed their first lead of the period with 6:23 remaining off a three-pointer from Candace McGee. With 54 seconds left in the game, Natalie Schupbach hit two free throws to grab a 65-63 lead for the Bulldogs but Jennies senior Anna Rorvig hit the game-tying shot with 20 seconds on the clock. The game went to overtime after Truman failed to convert in the closing seconds.

           The Jennies went on a 6-0 run to close the overtime period with Vincent tallying six of the Jen’s 12 points.

           Central Missouri shot 50 percent on the night and was led by Vincent with a season-high 24 points along with five steals. Rorvig chipped in with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting while Melissa Richardson had 12 points and eight boards. Lindsey Maple played a career-high 42 minutes in the game, logging five assists and two steals.
