Jennies use second half run to best Bulldogs
The Central Missouri State Jennies made an early second half run to coast to their ninth straight win on Wednesday night with a 70-56 win over Truman State.
CMSU (19-7, 11-4 MIAA) started off slow, scoring four points in the first 7:12 of the half but trailed by only three. The Jens regained the lead at the 10:42 mark, but the period would see three ties and six lead changes overall. Truman led 29-26 with 1:55 left in stanza but Central Missouri would score the final five points to go into the break up one. Kara Rewerts led the Jens with nine points in the period (3-of-3 from beyond the arc) while the Bulldogs were paced by Candace McGee, who also had nine (3-of-4 from long range).
The Jens started the second stanza on a 15-2 run and never let their lead drop below nine to blow the game open. The advantage was sparked by five points apiece from Lindsey Maple and Anna Rorvig. The Bulldogs shot 33.3 percent in the second half while Central Missouri hit 44.4 percent. The Jennies also dished out 21 assists compared to the Bulldogs 12.
Tiffany Vincent tallied 11 of her game-high 19 points in the second period while Ashley Millham put up all 11 of her points in the half. Rewerts finished with 14 and dished out a game-high seven assists compared to only one turnover.
Truman only had four players contribute points on the night with McGee hitting for a team-high 17 points. Natalie Shupbach put up 15 on the night with Georgia Mueller adding 14 and Ali Long tallying 10.
