Third ranked Emporia State downs Jennies 87-67


          The Emporia State Hornets had the shooting touch in their 87-67 victory over Central Missouri State this afternoon in Warrensburg. The Hornets connected on 54 percent (34-of-63) of their shots for the game including 12-of-23 (52.2 percent) from behind the three point line.

           opened the game strong for the Jennies as she scored the Jens first 10 points to give them a 10-8 lead. The Jens held a 13-12 lead going into the first media timeout before Emporia picked up the tempo and proceeded to outscore the Jennies 22-to-18 over the next 15 minutes to go into the break with a 34-31 lead.

           Emporia opened the second stanza on a 25-8 run to extend their lead to 59-39. The Jens wouldn’t go quietly however as they cut into the Hornets lead by going on an 11-0 run to cut the lead to 59-50 with 8:40 to go, but that was the closest they would get as Emporia answered with eight points to stretch their lead back to 67-50.

           Vincent finished the game with 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting to lead the Jennies. Kara Rewerts added 14, connecting on 4-of-5 shots including three from downtown. Vincent also led the Jens in boards with 12. Ashley Millham had five assists to pace CMSU.

           The Hornets were led by Michelle Stueve with 25 points and Andi McAlexander added 22 points while Carolyn Dorsey hit for 12.
