Ninth ranked Emporia State too much for Jennies
The University of Central Missouri Jennies basketball suffered the second worst loss in school history against Emporia State, 106-62 on Monday evening in Emporia, Kan. The 106 points allowed is the most in Dave Slifer’s three seasons at Central Missouri.
Emporia State (19-6, 12-4 MIAA) started out the game on a 19-0 run holding the Jennies (14-11, 7-9 MIAA) scoreless for the first nine minutes. ESU was red hot from the field in the first half connecting on 58 percent (21-of-36) from the floor, while the Jens had a tough time putting the ball in the bucket shooting 6-for-21 (29 percent). The Hornets went into the locker room with a 53-21 at the break. Michelle Stueve had 16 points and Cassondra Boston had 15 to pace Emporia in the half.
In the second stanza it was more of the same as ESU continued its torrid shooting grabbing its largest lead of the game at the 2:49 mark 103-53. Meagan Fromm and Ashley Millham had the hot hand for the Jennies in the frame combining to go 6-for-9 from the floor and 4-of-5 from downtown for 18 points. After a cold first half the Jens heated up shooting 44 percent (12-of-27) from the floor. UCM had a season high 29 turnovers in the game.
Millham had 15 points and Fromm contributed 14 more to lead the Jennies. Millham became the 21st member in school history to score 1,000 for her career.
Stueve led four Hornets in double figures with 22 points. Casey Henningsen dropped in 18, Boston added 17, and Denisa Svarova had 12.
