Jennies tip off season defeating Southern Indiana, 58-47

               The Central Missouri Jennies tipped off their 2006-07 season by defeating Southern Indiana, 58-47 on Wednesday night in Warrensburg.
            The first half was a defensive struggle with each team shooting less than 30 percent for the half. USI started the game on a 6-0 run before the Jens responded with a 10-2 run of their own to take a 10-8 lead. UCM’s lead would grow to 20-16 with just under two minutes remaining in the first before the Screaming Eagles closed the half on a 7-0 run to head into the break up 23-20. Lindsey Maple led Central Missouri with nine points as she connected on a trio of three-pointers while Kim Battle pulled down four rebounds. Jasmine Baines paced USI with eight points.
            Southern Indiana started the second stanza by scoring nine of the first 15 points to extend the lead to six at 32-26 with just under 14 minutes to play. The Jens responded by going on a 10-2 run over the next 2:30 to retake the lead at 38-34. The Screaming Eagles responded with 5:30 left to grab a one-point advantage before Central Missouri’s Megan Schoenfeld’s jumper gave the Jennies the lead back and sparked a 10-0 run over the next four minutes. The Jens would not look back as they connected on six-of-eight free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.
            UCM had two players reach double figures in scoring, led by Maple with 23 and Meagan Fromm with 14. Battle pulled down a career-high eight rebounds for the Jennies. Baines tossed in 17 points to lead Southern Indiana.
