Jennies season ends in MIAA first round
The University of Central Missouri Jennies got into a hole they couldn’t get out of on Friday night in the first round of the MIAA Tournament as they fell by a 67-50 margin to Emporia State.
Central Missouri, seeded sixth in the tourney, ends its season with a 14-14 overall record. Emporia State, seeded third, advances to the semifinals to face second seeded Washburn on Saturday night.
The Jennies scored only 19 points in the opening frame while ESU (22-6) poured in 46. Central Missouri was down by 10 at the 8:42 mark of the half and never got under double digits the rest of the night. Emporia out-shot the Jens in the period by a 62.1-to-19.4 percent clip. No Jens player had more than five points.
The Jennies picked it up on the defensive end in the second half though, holding the Hornets to 21 points, while scoring 31. Jojuana Jones was the bright spot for UCM, pulling down a career-high 16 rebounds in the outing and was the only player in double figures at 13. Central Missouri cut the advantage to 13 late in the game, but it was too late.
For the game UCM hit 23.4 percent from the floor and 5-26 from three point land.
