Jennies “steal” one from Evangel, 67-34
The Central Missouri Jennies used a strong defensive effort to shut down the Evangel Lady Crusaders, 67-34 on Tuesday night in Warrensburg.
The Jens (6-2) forced 15 turnovers, 11 of those steals were steals with Kim Battle recording five of those, in the first half which led to 15 points for UCM on their way to a 37-14 halftime lead. Ashley Millham got the Jens rolling offensively connecting on six-of-nine field goals in the opening stanza for 13 points and Lindsey Maple made all three of her field goal attempts, including two threes to finish the half with eight points. Central Missouri shot 53.6 percent in the opening half (15-of-28), while holding the Lady Crusaders to only 26.3 percent (5-of-19). The Jennies were even better from behind the three-point arc connecting on five-of-nine shots (55.6).
In the second frame Evangel trimmed the lead to 17 points at 39-22, before the Jens put the game away with a 19-6 run highlighted by nine points from Maple to push their lead to 30 points at 58-28 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the contest. UCM continued putting pressure on EU, forcing 11 more turnovers after the break
Millham and Maple led the way for Central Missouri scoring 17 points apiece and Kim Battle dropped in nine. Evangel was led by Kristin Metzger, who had a perfect night shooting the ball, finished with 13 points.
