Jennies snap two game skid, take Fort Hays State, 73-54

The Central Missouri Jennies snapped their two-game losing streak with a victory over Fort Hays State, 73-54 at the Multi on Thursday evening.
Meagan Fromm got the ball rolling offensively for the Jennies (10-5, 3-3 MIAA) by scoring seven of the first nine points of the contest, and nine of the team’s first 13 points as they jumped out to a 13-4 lead. Fort Hays (9-6, 1-6 MIAA) would keep the game close early though with a couple of threes from Naomi Bancroft, trimming the lead to two with less than 10 minutes remaining. It would be the closest the Tigers would get, however, as Megan Schoenfeld got the Jens back on track and scored seven straight points in a 17-6 run, extending the lead back to nine. That carried Central Missouri into the break with a 32-19 advantage.
UCM connected on 40.0 percent (12-of-30) from the floor in the opening half while holding the Tigers to only 8-for-31 (25.8 percent) from the field. Fromm had nine points and seven boards to lead the Jennies in the first frame.
In the second stanza it was more of the same as the Jennies continued applying defensive pressure, never allowing Fort Hays the opportunity to establish its rhythm on the offensive end. Schoenfeld once again provided the spark offensively by scoring eight straight points in a four minute stretch on her way to a career-high 19.
The Jens out-shot the Tigers by a 44.1-to-32.3 percent margin, had a 43-37 advantage on the glass, and connected on 17-of-24 free throws compared to only 5-of-7 for FHSU.
Schoenfeld led four Jennies in double figures. Fromm recorded her first double of the season with 18 points and nearly doubling her career-high in rebounds with 13. Battle added 13, and Lindsey Maple finished with 11. Ashlee Gustin and Naomi Bancroft each had nine points to lead Fort Hays while Kayla Klug and Sheena Kuntzsch had eight points apiece.
