Jennies basketball announces 2007-08 signees
The University of Central Missouri Jennies and head coach Dave Slifer have announced the next class of student-athletes that will wear the Cardinal and Black. Four high school standouts and a couple junior college transfers join the squad for the 2007-08 season.
"This class is deeper, more athletic, and hopefully has more basketball
savvy." Slifer said, "It should help get the Jennies back in the NCAA
tournament."
The class boasts a couple post players and four guards to replace the three starters that graduated last season.
The Jennies have averaged nearly 20 wins per year in Slifer's three seasons, making the NCAA
Tournament on two occasions.
Following is a list of the 2007-08 signees:
Dominica Blakemore - Guard
5-8 * Junior
Louisville, Ky. * Lincoln Trails Community College (Robinson, Ill.)
A shooting guard, Blakemore was a first-team all-conference and all-region performer at
LTCC. She led her team to their best season ever, finishing 24-6 and 13-3 in the Great Rivers Conference. Blakemore finished the season averaging 13.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. She led the team in three point percentage, shooting 44.4 percent from beyond the arc, a percentage that also ranked seventh in the nation.
Angelina Browne - Post
6-2 * Junior
Northampton, England * Three Rivers Community College (Poplar Bluff, Mo.)
A post player from Northampton, England, Browne was awarded all-conference and all-region accolades last season.
She lead her team to a 21-7 record her sophomore year and averaged more than 18 pts, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals per outing. She will bring more athletic ability to the post position along with the capability to step out and shoot the three.
Kelce Goebel - Guard
5-7 * Freshman
Overland Park, Kan. * Shawnee Mission South High School
An All-Sun Country honorable mention selection, Goebel was a second-team All-Sunflower League pick for head coach Ron Millard at SMSHS as a junior before turning in even better accolades last season. She garnered honorable mention all-state and first-team all-league honors as well as making the Kansas City metro area all-star team
and led her team to the 2006 6A sub-state championship and a fourth place finish in the state. Goebel finished her career as the all-time assist leader in school history and was named the Johnson County Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. She also played soccer and ran track in high school, leading the team in scoring as both a junior and senior,
earned honorable mention all-conference as a junior. On the track, she ran for the state champion 3200 meter relay team and set a new state record.
Kara Fleming - Guard
5-8 * Freshman
Kansas City, Mo. * Liberty High School
Helped LHS to the district and Missouri state title while pulling in several awards. Fleming was all-conference, all-district, all-metro, and all-state for head coach Brad Oyler. A three-year letterwinner, she played in the Mo-Kan All-Star Game and the Missouri Hall of Fame All-Star Game as a senior. She also ran track and was an all-conference performer in the hurdles.
Katherine Lacy - Guard
5-11 * Freshman
Gladstone, Mo. * Oak Park High School
A first-team All-Northland, all-conference, and all-district selection for head coach Jeff Eversole, Lacy led her squad to the District 16 title and qualified for state. She was the NKC Most Valuable Player and made the NKC all-tournament team as well, lettering all four seasons. Lacy also lettered three years for the tennis team and played soccer.
Becca Roberts - Post
6-0 * Freshman
Shawnee, Kan. * Shawnee Mission Northwest High School
Lettered three years for head coach John Reiff, earning first-team All-Sunflower League as a junior and senior.
A two-sport athlete, Roberts also ran track. She earned two letters and qualified for state two times.
