CMSU Basketball & Wrestling Teams Compete Before Finals

Warrensburg, Mo. (Dec. 4, 2000) -- Central Missouri State University's basketball and wrestling squads will be in action this week, then will take a break from competition and turn their attention to fall semester final exams (Dec. 11-15).

Coach Scott Ballard's basketball Jennies, who have been idle since Nov. 25, make two road trips this week, hoping to improve their current 3-1 record. Tuesday they travel to St. Louis to meet former Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association foe University of Missouri-St. Louis in a 7 p.m. contest. It will be the first meeting between the two schools since UMSL left the MIAA following the 1995-96 season. The Riverwomen are 2-3 this season. The Jennies lead the series 27-1 and have won all 14 previous meetings in St. Louis.

Saturday the Jennies go to Springfield for a first-ever meeting with Drury University at 1 p.m. Drury is in its first season of women's basketball, but has a 5-2 record already this year.

Coach Don Doucette's basketball Mules, 2-1, will get a chance to avenge their only loss of the season when they meet former MIAA foe Lincoln University Saturday at 7 p.m. in the CMSU Multipurpose Building. The Blue Tigers, off to a 5-1 start prior to playing at the University of Missouri-Rolla Wednesday night, beat the Mules 96-77 Nov. 28 in Jefferson City, Mo.

In addition to their win over the Mules, Lincoln also has beaten MIAA opponents Truman State University, Missouri-Rolla and Missouri Southern State College this season.

Coach Robin Ersland's wrestling squad will make a pair of home appearances at the Multipurpose Building this week. The Mules, currently 4-0 in dual matches, will take on Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in a dual match Wednesday at 7 p.m. Saturday the Mules will entertain perennial NCAA Division II powerhouse University of Central Oklahoma in a dual match at 2 p.m.
