| Mules Add Six More Players to Basketball Roster Warrensburg, Mo. (May 7, 2001) -- Two NCAA
Division I transfers, two junior-college transfers and two high-school seniors are the
latest recruits signed by Central Missouri State University men's basketball coach Don
Doucette for next season.
Transferring from Division I schools are Paul Rorvig, a 6' 4"
guard from Lafayette University, and Jeremy McFall, a 6' 0" guard
from the University of North Texas.
Joining the Mules from the junior-college ranks are Vince Haynes, a 6'
2" guard from Cochise College (Ariz.), and Tad Marquez (pronounced:
Mar-KEZZ), a 6' 7" forward from Southwest Missouri State University-West Plains.
The two high-school seniors are Brian Baker, a 5' 10" point guard
from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif., and Dwight Williams, a
6' 6" forward from Lincoln East High School in Lincoln, Neb.
Rorvig, a former Odessa, Mo., High School standout, had to sit out his freshman season
at Lafayette this season because of a foot injury and will have four years of eligibility
remaining. A three-time all-state selection at Odessa, Rorvig finished his high school
career as Missouri's all-time leading three-point scorer with 355 three-pointers. He
averaged 17.3 points and 8.4 rebounds as a senior at Odessa.
McFall played in 26 games at North Texas last season, averaging 3.0 points in just
under 10 minutes per outing. He had a solid high school career at Olathe (Kan.) South High
School, where he was the school's all-time scoring leader, averaging 16.4 points and 4.1
assists for his career.
Haynes averaged 17.6 points and 4.0 rebounds for a Cochise team that went 28-6 last
season, was ranked 12th in the nation, won a regional title, and qualified for the
national junior-college tournament. He was a second-team all-conference and all-region
selection.
Marquez, a native of Port of Spain, Trinidad, was a reserve forward at SMS-West Plains,
averaging 2.6 points and 3.0 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who were 27-5.
Baker earned all-conference honors at Mater Dei, where he averaged 2.3 points, was
third on the team in steals and fourth in assists as a member of one of the top high
school teams in the nation. Mater Dei was 33-2, won a state championship and was ranked
fourth in the nation by USA TODAY.
Williams averaged 15.1 points and 7.7 rebounds while earning all-state honors and
helping lead Lincoln East to the Nebraska Class 1A State Championship this season.
The newest recruits give the Mules a total of seven new players for next season.
Doucette had earlier announced the signing of Mark DeBaun, a 6' 4" forward from NJCAA
Division II national champion Johnson County Community College (Kan.). |
