1999-2000 Mules' Basketball
Preview
For his fourth campaign at Central Missouri, Mules' coach Don Doucette is hoping the
return of a solid nucleus from last year and the addition of three potential impact
players will result in a significant improvement over last season's 14-14 record.
A second-team all-region selection last year, 6-10 senior center Raymond Hugley
tops the list of Mules' returners and is considered one of the MIAA's top post players. He
was second in the league in rebounding (8.5 avg.) and eighth in scoring (14.5 ppg),
leading CMSU in both categories. He also was the conference's top shot-blocker with 64.
Junior Brennan Scanlon (5-10) returns as the Mules' point guard. He
averaged 6.2 assists (second in the MIAA) and had the league's best assist-to-turnover
ratio.
Seniors Roland Fowler (6-7) and Chris Glasper (5-9)
and junior Mike Middleton (6-4) all started more than half of last year's
games and are expected to improve their contributions this season. Fowler averaged 8.7
points and 6.5 rebounds in 22 starts at forward. Glasper averaged 7.6 points and 2.3
assists in 15 starts at guard. Middleton averaged 9.7 points and 4.9 rebounds, while
making 18 starts at forward.
The potential impact players, all junior-college transfers, upon whom Doucette is
counting heavily are guards Sean Price (6-4) and Daryl Greene
(6-3) and forward Tyrone Johnson (6-6). Price was an
honorable mention All-America selection at Pasco-Hernando Community College in New Port
Richey, Fla. He averaged 18.7 points and shot 48% from three-point range while leading
Pasco-Hernando to a 25-6 record and a No. 15 national ranking. Greene, a third-team
All-American, led Newbury College in Brookline, Mass., to a 25-9 mark with a 19.2 scoring
average and a 5.5 rebounding average. He had a single-game high of 38 points and shot 59%
from the field. Johnson averaged 15.3 points and 6.6 rebounds for Brevard Community
College's (Cocoa, Fla.) 20-10 squad last season. He was the team's second-leading scorer
and rebounder.
Rounding out the Mules' squad are sophomores Jeff Glosier (6-7), Brian
Bisges (6-10) and Blair Thompson (6-1) and freshman James
Collins (6-2). Glosier appeared in 18 games last season at forward in limited
action. Bisges, a center, was lost for the season last year after the first five games
because of a shoulder and rib injury. Thompson, who is a guard, was red-shirted last
season. Collins averaged 17.0 points, 3.0 assists and 3.1 rebounds while earning
first-team all-state honors as a guard at Warrensburg (Mo.) High School to help the Tigers
to a 26-6 record and a third-place finish in the 3A state tournament last season.
