CMSU Softball Jennies sign five for 2005 campaign

 

Central Missouri State University softball coach Rhesa Sumrell has announced the addition of five new players for the 2004-05 season.  Joining the Jennies next season will be Katie Bauer (St. Louis, Mo.), Kherri-Dean Hummer (Clarksdale, Mo.), Whitney Sandberg (Olathe, Kan.), Chelsea Terhune (Savannah, Mo.), and Alyssa Werckmann (St. Louis, Mo.).

Bauer, the daughter of Joe and Becky Bauer, is a 5-foot-9 middle infielder and outfielder from Notre Dame High School.  She lettered all four seasons on the diamond, and added one letter in basketball.  In softball, she earned all-conference and all-district honors as a junior and senior, and as a junior was named to the all-metro team.  She helped lead Notre Dame to a third-place finish in the state tournament. Hummer, the daughter of Mike and Julie Hummer, is a 5-foot-9 catcher who graduated from Stewartsville (Mo.) High School.  She was a three-sport athlete, adding letters in basketball, softball, and track.  Hummer earned all-conference and all-district accolades three times, and twice was named to the all-region and all-state teams. A 5-foot-5 first baseman/outfielder, Sandberg is the daughter of David and Mary Jo Sandberg.  The graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas lettered in both softball and cross country earned first-team All-East Kansas League and second-team All-Sun Country honors as a senior.  Her mother is a member of the CMSU Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1980 Jennies basketball team.

Terhune is already involved in athletics at CMSU, as she is a freshman rightside hitter on the Jennies volleyball team.  The 5-foot-10 pitcher did not play high school softball, as Savannah High did not field the sport, but her Trojanettes ASA team finished in the top four in the state six times in seven years, including a first-place finish in 1997.  The daughter of Shane and Tammy Terhune lettered in volleyball, basketball, and track at Savannah.  She was an all-conference and all-district volleyball player and all-district track performer. Werckmann, the daughter of Keith and Linda Werckmann, is a 5-foot-8 utility player.  A graduate of Ursuline Academy in Kirkwood, Mo., she earned four varsity letters in softball.  As a senior she was a second-team all-conference and first-team all-district pick for Ursuline.

The 2004 CMSU Jennies softball team finished with a mark of 37-19, 11-7 and third in the MIAA.  The Jennies finished second in the MIAA Championship Tournament.
