THREE SOFTBALL JENNIES NAMED ALL-MIAA

Central Missouri State Jennies softball landed three on the 2005 All-MIAA team after the conclusion of the regular season and conference tourney. Junior Kym Caskey (McLoud, Okla.) was named to the second-team while junior Megan Bax (Jefferson City, Mo.) and sophomore Lauren Young (Lenexa, Kan.) earned honorable mention accolades.

Caskey led the team in batting average (.322), home runs (8), RBI (25), walks (18), and runs (23). She also had a .520 slugging percentage and her eight homers tied for second all-time in a single season.

Bax led the squad in hits (58) and only struck out 10 times in 182 at bats. She was also the most solid fielder on the team as she committed only two errors in 338 chances at catcher and third base (99.4 fielding %).

Young was the top pitcher with a team-high 17 wins and 155 strikeouts. She has already climbed to second all-time in strikeouts at CMSU with 362 in two seasons. Young was first on the team and among the league leaders in nearly every statistical category including a 1.40 ERA.

The Jens ended their season after going 1-2 at the MIAA Tournament this past weekend. They dropped a 1-0 decision to Pittsburg State in the bottom of the 7th for the opener but came back to win a 1-0 contest over Missouri Southern in an elimination outing. Junior Kristy Furrer (St. Louis, Mo.) hit what would turn out to be the game-winning solo home run in the bottom of the 6th inning. CMSU dropped its third game to NCAA Tournament pick Missouri Western by a score of 5-2.
