Kelly Martin, in action earlier this season, established a new
Jennies single-season record by recording her fifth save in a
4-0 win over
Missouri Southern on Friday at the 2006
MIAA
Tournament. Martin combined with DeAnna McQueen for the shutout in
the Jennies only victory of the double elimination tournament in Shawnee,
Kansas. Kym Caskey hit a homerun and drove in three of the runs for
CMSU, who had dropped an opening round game to Washburn (Kan.) University
5-2 that sent them
to losers bracket. After the win over Missouri Southern, the Jennies
were eliminated from the conference tournament with a 5-2
setback at the hands of Truman (Mo.) State on Friday evening. Meredith Muenks was the pitcher
of record in both losses for
the Jennies in, who were led on offense by Heather Whitcomb with two hits in
the game against Washburn, and Melissa Palmer had two hits against Truman
State.
The Jennies finish the 2006 season with a record of
32-25.

Heather Whitcomb, pictured in action earlier this season, is the only
Jennies first-team All-MIAA selection for 2006. Five other players
also received some type of all-conference honors in voting by the league
coaches. Rachel Adams, Kym Caskey, and Megan Hollenbach were named to
the second team, and honorable mention recognition went to Megan Bax and
Lauren Young.
Rhesa Sumrell, who announced that she would retire at the end of the season,
was named as co-coach of the year in the league in honor of her 19 seasons
as head coach for the Jennies. A former player for Sumrell at CMSU,
Susan (Punzo) Anderson shares the coach of the year honor after leading
Northwest Missouri State to a runner-up finish in the league.
