Adams named MIAA Player of Year,
Anderson shares Coach of Year honors

Rachel Adams was named the MIAA Player of the Year and head coach Susan Anderson earned Co-Coach of the Year honors this past Friday at the MIAA Tournament in Shawnee, Kan. Anderson shared the honor with Kristi Bredbenner from Emporia State.
The Jennies had five players named to the All-MIAA.  Adams and senior Lauren Young (Lenexa, Kan.) earned first team All-MIAA honors while senior catcher Megan Hollenbach (Ballwin, Mo.) and freshmen pitchers Kristal Holland (Basehor, Kan. and Lindsey Wagaman (Emerson, Iowa) earned honorable mention honors.
In her first year at her alma mater Anderson led the Jens to their highest conference win total since 1998 when they went 16-4. Her team finished second in the conference this year after finishing tied for fifth last season and is making its first appearance in the NCAA Regional Tournament since 1997. She shared coach of the year honors last season at NWMSU with her former coach Rhesa Sumrell.
Adams, first team shortstop from Barnhart, Mo., leads the Jens in virtually every offensive category this season including batting average (.468), home runs (9), RBIs (58), slugging percentage (.756) and total bases (118). She set the UCM career home run record at 25 with her ninth home run of the season against Northwest Missouri State on April 28. In just two seasons at Central Missouri she has already set four single season records and two career records and is on pace to set a few more before this season is done.
Joining Adams on the first team is Young at designated player. Young is hitting a career-high .331 this season while leading the team in runs scored (39). She is second on the team in batting average, hits (49), runs batted in (30) and total bases (67). For Young it’s her fourth straight selection to the All-MIAA squad honoring second team honors as a freshman and honorable mention honors as a sophomore at pitcher and last season she was named to the honorable mention squad as a designated player.
Hollenbach earned her second straight All-MIAA selection after earning second team honors last season as a utility player. After a slow start to the season she hit .364 in MIAA play and recorded a hit in every conference game but two. Hollenbach has driven in 22 runs this season, fourth best on the team.
Holland came on strong at the end of the season for the Jens pitching staff picking up three straight wins and a save in the doubleheader sweeps of Washburn and Northwest Missouri. She was 6-1 in league play with an earned run average of 1.34. Holland struck out a career-high seven batters in UCM’s 4-3 11 inning win over WU on April 27. The next day against NWMSU she pitched 6.1 innings giving up a run on two hits while striking out six Bearcats.
Wagaman went 11-7 this season leading the Jens in wins and innings pitched (93.1). At one stretch during the season she won five straight contests from March 29 until April 17. In those five starts she tossed 26.1 innings while allowing only five earned runs while striking out 21 hitters including a career-high 10 at Missouri Southern on April 10.
