Softball Jennies add three for 2005

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) - Head coach Rhesa Sumrell was hard at work during the early signing period for 2005, and has added three prep standouts for next years Central Missouri State Jennies softball roster.

Joining the team in the spring of 2005 will be Katherine Bauer of St. Louis, Mo.; Whitney Sandberg of Overland Park, Kan.; and Chelsea Terhune of Savannah, Mo.

Bauer, the daughter of Joe and Becky Bauer and a graduate Notre Dame High School, is a 5-9 middle infielder/outfielder. She earned all-conference and all-district the past two years at Notre Dame High, and lettered all four years on the diamond. Bauer, who will major in accounting, also lettered once in basketball. She helped her American Fastpitch Association team to a third place finish at the national tournament in 2002.

A graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Sandberg is the daughter of David and Mary Joe Sandberg (a member of the CMSU Athletics Hall of Fame) and will major in sports medicine/athletic training at Central Missouri State. A 5-5 outfielder/first baseman, she was a first-team all-conference and All-Sun County pick last season for St. Thomas. Sandberg also lettered in cross country.

Terhune is a 5-10 left-handed pitcher/outfielder/first baseman from Savannah High School. The daughter of Shane and Tammy Terhune, she helped lead her American Softball Association team, the Trojanettes, to six top-five finishes in the state tournament, including a state title in 1997. In high school, she lettered in volleyball, basketball, and track.

“We recruited these three young ladies because they are all very versatile,” Sumrell says. “They all can play more than one position, which gives us some options in our lineup.”

The Jennies open their 2004 campaign at home on February 23 when they host Lindenwood University.
