| Jennies' Season Ends at MIAA Tourney; Two
Players Selected to All-Conference Squad Warrensburg, Mo. (May 11,
2000) -- The Central Missouri State University softball Jennies saw their season
come to an end with a tie-for-fifth-place finish at the Mid-America Intercollegiate
Athletics Association (MIAA) Championships May 5-6 in Shawnee, Kan. The Jennies concluded
the campaign with a 24-28 record.
Seeded ninth among the 10-team field for the double-elimination event, the Jennies
opened the tourney with a 2-0 loss to eighth-seeded University of Missouri-Rolla on
Friday, but beat No. 7 Southwest Baptist University 2-1 and No. 6 Emporia State University
6-0 in the loser's bracket before being eliminated by a 5-3 loss to No. 4 Pittsburg State
University in the loser's bracket semifinals. All four games were played on Friday.
The Jennies had two players named to the all-MIAA team released on Monday. Outfielder Stacy
Doiron (Sr., Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Dr. J.H. Gillis Regional H.S.) was a
first-team choice, while outfielder Shauna Ryan [Jr., North Kansas City,
Mo., Oak Park H.S./Maple Woods C.C. (Mo.)] was an honorable-mention pick. Doiron, who was
a second-team selection as a junior after earning honorable-mention honors her sophomore
year, was fourth in triples (0.12 pg), ninth in batting (.361) and 13th in slugging
percentage (.494) in the final regular-season MIAA stats, while Ryan finished with a .323
average, good for third on CMSU's squad.
Jennies head coach Rhesa Sumrell announced today that 15 members of her team would
receive varsity letters for the 2000 campaign. In addition to the two all-conference
picks, the list includes catcher Emily Barr (Jr.,
Overland Park, Kan., St. Thomas Aquinas H.S.), infielder Beth Blackburn
(Fr., Ballwin, Mo., Parkway South H.S.), pitcher Kristi Butcher [Jr.,
Boring, Ore., Sam Barlow H.S. (Gresham, Ore.)], outfielder Noelle Casas
(So., Lee's Summit, Mo., LSHS), second baseman Sissy Fletcher (Fr.,
DeSoto, Kan., DHS), pitcher Gwen Giffin (Jr., Antigonish, Nova Scotia,
Dr. J.H. Gillis Regional H.S.), infielder Lauren Loucks
(Sr., Mound City, Mo., Holt County H.S.), shortstop Casey McAllister
(Sr., Paola, Kan., PHS), third baseman Brandy Remington [Jr., Brighton,
Iowa, Washington (Iowa) Senior H.S./Kirkwood C.C. (Iowa)], infielder-outfielder Lauren
