Kristin Anderson named Academic All-American of the Year

Kristin Anderson had a year to remember in 2004-05. She won the 2004 MIAA Cross Country Championship. She claimed high-point individual honors at both the 2005 MIAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and she won a national title in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA-II Outdoor Championships.

But her cap added perhaps its most prestigious feather today, as she was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country.

Anderson, a native of Richfield, Ohio, boasts a 3.97 grade-point average in marketing. An 18-time All-MIAA performer in her career, Anderson won the 3000- and 5000-meter runs and was second in the mile at the 2005 MIAA Indoor Championships. She then took first in the 3000, 3000-meter steeplechase, and 10,000 (the first time she ever ran the race) and was second in the 5000 at the 2005 MIAA Outdoor meet. In addition to her national title, Anderson was an All-American in cross country, placing 15th at the NCAA-II National Championships, and in the 5000 at the NCAA-II Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Behind her effort, CMSU won the “triple crown” in 2004-05, as the Jennies claimed MIAA titles in cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field.  A senior in cross country and outdoor track & field, Anderson has one season of college eligibility remaining on the indoor oval.
