ANDERSON EARNS INDIVIDUAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

 

Senior Kristin Anderson (Richfield, Ohio) completed her last collegiate 3,000 meter steeplechase in style as she ran a school-record 10:32.92 and came away as the NCAA-II National Champion. The Jennies had six All-Americans (everyone that finished 8th or better) after the conclusion of the weekend while the Mules landed two in the hammer throw.

On the womens side, CMSU sent nine athletes with six earning points and helping them to an 11th place finish. Jennifer Drum (LaMonte, Mo.) led the way for three Jennies in the high jump with a 4th place mark (5-08.50) while Robin Miller (St. Louis, Mo.) grabbed 7th (5-07.25) and Haley Morrissey (Macon, Mo.) took 12th (5-04.25). Becky Haug (Lees Summit, Mo.) set a school record in the discus throw with a 6th place toss of 159-01 while Lori Pitz (Windsor, Colo.) set a CMSU record in the heptathlon (4,994 pts.) for 7th place overall. Shantel Newbold (Nassau, Bahamas) turned in a time of 57.69 in the 400 meter dash to finish in 21st while Melissa Bolinger (Clarksburg, Mo.) competed in both the 400 meter and 100 meter hurdles. She was 14th in the 100 hurdles (14.49) and 16th in the 400 hurdles (1:02.80). The 4x400 relay team, consisting of Newbold, Beth Eiken (Jefferson City, Mo.), Bolinger, and Pitz, took 11th with a time of 3:47.31.

For the Mules, Dan Raithel (Jefferson City, Mo.) and Steven Edwards (Mound City, Mo.) threw for All-American status in the hammer, taking 4th and 8th, respectively. Raithel tossed a personal best 193-08 while Edwards also had the best throw of his career with a mark of 184-01. Edwards also competed in the shot put and finished 17th with a throw of 50-08.75. Also to be noted, Bruce Williams (Minneapolis, Minn.) turned a 10.65 in the 100 meter dash to finish 15th.
