14 Qualify for National Outdoor Meet

The CMSU track and field team qualified 14 student athletes for the NCAA National Championships in Emporia, Kan. on May 25-27. The Mules and Jennies hope to add to the Outdoor MIAA Championship performances from May 6-7.

On the men's side, junior Bruce Williams (Minneapolis, Minn.) qualified in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash and is part of the 4x400 meter relay. He was the conference champion in the 200 meter dash with a time of 20.93 and finished second in the 100 meters in 10.55 seconds. Williams was also part of the 4x400 team that won the conference title.

Senior Jarod Wall (Marshalltown, Iowa) qualified in the 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter runs. He won the conference championships in both events with times of 14:27.52 in the 5000 and 31:42.95 in the 10,000.

For the women, senior Lori Pitz (Windsor, Co.) qualified in the heptathlon and in the high jump. She was crowned the conference champ in the heptathlon with a score of 4874 points and finished second behind teammate Jennifer Drum-Greer in the high jump.

The others to qualify for the national meet for the men were senior Steven Edwards in the discus throw, sophomore Dan Raithel in the hammer throw, sophomore Kyle Brown, junior Ryan Irvin, sophomore Dannon Abney, and Williams qualified for the 4 x 400 meter relay. The others to qualify for the women were seniors Amber Walker in the 200 meter dash, Drum-Greer in the high jump, and Becky Haug in the discus throw, sophomores Haley Morrissey and Jodi Donovan in the high jump, and freshman Anne Carlson in the heptathlon.
