Pedersen, Janvrin named indoor track and field coaches of the year
Kirk Pedersen and Kip Janvrin were named the MIAA coaches of the year for women's indoor track and field and co-coaches of the year on the men's side with Northwest Missouri's Rich Alsup.
The Jennies posted 157 points for a winning margin of 45 points over second-place Pittsburg State. Leading their effort was high-point award co-winner Kristin Anderson; the senior distance runner scored 30 points with wins in the mile, 3000 and 5000 meters.
CMSU also had depth help its cause on the women's side, getting three athletes to score in five events. Four Jennies, led by senior Jennifer Drum Greer (the event winner), scored in the high jump.
Anderson went on to win the NCAA Division II national title in the 5000 and Drum Greer did the same in the high jump. The Jennies had their best ever national finish at 6th place this year as well.
The Mules topped Northwest Missouri State, 156-99, to take the men's championship. Senior thrower Steven Edwards scored 20 points in sweeping the shot and weight titles. The Mules also had five other event wins and swept second-through fifth in the 3000 meters.
The Mules took 10th in the NCAA National Championships as well.
Pedersen and Janvrin collect the Women's Coach of the Year award for the second time and the men's award for the seventh time in their 10 seasons as co-head coaches.
The duo also have won four men's outdoor coaching awards and one women's outdoor award from the MIAA, while Pedersen has 10 conference cross country Coach of the Year awards (seven men's and three women's) since 1993.
