Mules and Jennies repeat as conference Indoor champs
The Mules and Jennies repeated as the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Champions this weekend in Joplin at the Leggett and Platt Athletic Center. The Mules rolled to a 57-point win while the Jennies coasted to a 42-point victory.
Senior Kristin Anderson was the high-point individual for the meet, winning the mile run (5:05.94), 3,000 meter run (10:28.95) and 5,000 meter run (18:06.15). Other event winners were Jennifer Greer in the high jump (5-08.00) and the mile relay team (3:55.11) of Cody Varner, Beth Eiken, Amber Walker, and Lori Pitz. Second place finishers were Gina Kennison in the 5,000 meter run (18:10.04), Chelsea Luck in the 60 meter hurdles (9.16), and Haley Morrissey in the high jump (5-07.00). Six Jennies also finished in third place at the meet with Walker in the 200 meter dash (25.71), Pitz in the 400 (58.41), Varner in the 600 yard run (1:27.94), Kennison in the 3,000 (10:36.60), Brittanie Roldan in the 60 meter hurdles (9.37), and Anne Carlson in the triple jump (37-11.50).
For the Mules, Steven Edwards took titles in both the shot put (56-08.75) and the weight throw (60-03.25) while Imani Butler won the 60 meter dash (6.86) and shattered the MIAA and building record of 22.51 in the 200 with a blistering 21.22 in the preliminary round. He did not compete in the finals due to a hamstring injury however. Bruce Williams kept the Mules on top in the 200 with a 21.54 for first place and took third in the 60 at 6.95. Jarod Wall also ran well for the Mules, taking an event title in the 5,000 meter run (14:58.93) and second in the 3,000 (8:27.74). The mile relay team of Ryan Irvin, Matt Prescott, Kyle Brown, and Dannon Abney won with a time of 3:20.72 as well. Adam Akers took second in the mile run at 4:14.09 while Irvin won the 600 yard run (1:13.13) and Brown took second (1:13.14). Prescott also grabbed a second place finish, running an 8.27 in the 60 meter hurdles. The Mules also had three third place marks, Phil Soetaert in the long jump (21-10.75), Darryl May in the triple jump (42-10.75) and Dan Raithel in the weight throw (59-09.75).
