Mules and Jennies sweep

MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The Central Missouri State Mules and Jennies swept the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Saturday and Sunday in Emporia, Kansas. The Mules rolled to a 67-point victory over second place Pittsburg State, helping them to their fifth title in the last six years. The Jens coasted to a 27.5-point win over the Gorilla women and claimed their second consecutive "triple crown" by successfully defending the cross country, indoor and outdoor MIAA titles.

Senior Lori Pitz was the MIAA High-Point Individual, scoring 36.5 points. She did it by winning the heptathlon (4,874 points) and 400-meter hurdles (1:02.11), placing second in the high jump (5-07.00), third in the long jump (18-09.75), and running a leg on the winning 4x400 meter relay (3:52.20). It is the third consecutive year a Jenny has claimed the award (Kristin Anderson did it in 2004 and 2005).

On the men's side, senior Steven Edwards scored 24 points to lead the Mules. He won the shot put (52-11.00), took second in the hammer (186-10), and third in the discus (152-02).

In all, the Jennies had 41 All-MIAA performances while the Mules garnered 31 top six finishes.
