Potthast, Mohme named to All-America Volleyball Team
(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) -Senior outside hitter Carrie Potthast and junior middle hitter Elyse Mohme earned Amercian Volleyball Coaches Association All-America honors for their play in 2003.
Potthast, a second-team selection (after earning third-team honors in 2002) led Central with 619 kills and 695.5 points while hitting .229. The St. Rose, Ill. native also had 607 digs, 45 assists, 31 service aces, and 76 blocks (15 solo, 61 assists).
A Columbia, Ill. native, Mohme was an honorable mention pick by the AVCA. She had a team-best .333 hitting percentage and was second on the team with 469 kills, 578 points, and 136 total blocks (a team-high 30 solo and 106 assists).
Both made it to the national ballot by earning first-team All-South Central Region honors. Senior rightside hitter Trudy Carter and freshman libero Katie Tarka also were selected to the All-Region team as honorable mention picks. Carter, a native of Overbrook, Kan., hit .281 for the Jennies in 2002 with 413 kills, 97 total blocks, and 475 points. A St. Charles, Mo. native, Tarka had a team-leading 642 digs and a serve receive percentage of .912.
Their efforts helped lead Central to a 26-11 record, 11-5 and tied for second in the MIAA. The Jennies went on to finish second in the South Central Regional Tournament.
