Jennies volleyball ranked among the best in NCAA
Division II
It
is no secret the Central Missouri State University Jennies are one of the elite programs in
NCAA Division II volleyball. After all,
the Jennies have won at least 25 games 26 consecutive years, and have advanced
to the NCAA Tournament the past 21 years in a row.
A report recently released by the American
Volleyball Coaches Association, however, bears further evidence to the Jennies
consistency on the volleyball court over the past two decades. Since 1986, the Jennies have ranked in every
poll released by the AVCA, the only team in NCAA Division II that can make that
claim. In addition, Central
Missouri State has been ranked in the top 10 in 117
of the 222 polls released over that span, a mark that ranks third in Division
II. The Jennies are also one of only two
teams to be ranked in the final AVCA poll every year since 1986 (North Dakota State, now an NCAA Division I member, is the other team).
Individually, the CMSU Jennies have also
made their mark, as 13 players have earned AVCA All-America honors (tied for
fourth-best in D-II). Central Missouri State has also been awarded 22 All-America
certificates, as six players earned All-America honors more than once. That number also is tied for fourth.
The Central Missouri State Jennies, in
their 28th year under the direction of head coach Peggy Martin, will
try to add to those numbers when they begin play August 26 at the University of
West Alabama.
