Six Jennies volleyballers named to MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll

The 2004 Central Missouri State University Jennies volleyball team epitomized the term "student-athletes." Not only did the Jennies advance to the regional championship game (falling to eventual national runner-up Truman State University), but they also placed six on the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.

Named to the team this fall were junior middle hitter Becky Haug (interior design major from Lee's Summit, Mo.), sophomore libero Brooke Henry (biology major from Topeka, Kan.), senior middle hitter Elyse Mohme (business major from Columbia, Ill.), senior libero Kathryn Mueller (dietetics major from Blackburn, Mo.), sophomore libero Katie Tarka (biology major from St. Charles, Mo.), and junior setter Kaci Young (photography major from Littleton, Colo.).

Mohme was a second-team American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American, while Haug, Tarka, and Young all earned mention accolades.

Mohme led the Jennies and the MIAA in hitting percentage at .356. She had a team-best 593 kills (4.39 per game), 120 blocks (16 solo, 104 assists, 0.89 per game), and 661 points (4.90 per game). Her kills total was fifth-best in school history, while her 4.39 kills per game was second-highest in Jennies' history.

Haug was right behind with a .323 hitting percentage, 418 kills (3.45 per game), 117 blocks (25 solo, 92 assists, 0.97 per game), and 509.0 points (4.21 per game).

Young registered the fifth-best assist total in school history (second-best in the MIAA this year) with 1,631. She also had 139 kills (1.05 per game), hit .271, and put up 438 digs. For good measure, Young tacked on a team-leading 37 service aces and 48 total blocks (9 solo, 39 assists).

Tarka set the MIAA record for digs in a season. She had 860 digs (6.77 per game), good for second in NCAA Division II, and also had 25 service aces.

Henry appeared in 58 games through the course of the season, finishing with 128 digs and six service aces, while Mueller saw action in 73 games and had 138 digs and 26 aces.

To be named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll teams, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better at the qualifying institution; must have at least two terms of attendance at the member school, excluding summer sessions; must be a sophomore, junior, or senior in athletic eligibility; and may not be inactive due to redshirt or hardship qualification.
