No. 7 Jennies fall 3-2 at No. 9 Tampa

The Central Missouri State University Jennies saw a 2-0 lead slip away as they fell 3-2 at Tampa University last night (Aug. 25) in Division II volleyball action.

The Jennies, ranked No. 7 in the first American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, jumped to a 2-0 lead, 30-24 and 30-26. They hit .364 in the opening game (compared to just .200 for Tampa) and then out-hit their host .265-to-.170 in game two.

But Tampa, the No. 9 team according to the AVCA, won the next three games, 30-28, 30-21, 15-13 to take the match.

Freshman Brooke Butler made a statement in her first college match, collecting a team-best 16 kills in 43 attempts. She also had 11 digs. Andrea Robertson chimed in with 15 kills and four total blocks (one solo, three assists), and senior Becky Haug put down 12 kills with six blocks (one solo, five assists). Kaci Young had 47 assists, 11 digs, and two service aces while hitting .562 (nine kills, no errors in 16 attempts) and Katie Tarka had a match-high 33 digs.
