Three Jennies named to AVCA All-America Teams

Three Central Missouri State University Jennies were honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association recently, as they were named to the AVCA Division II All-America teams.

At middle hitter, senior Becky Haug was a second-team selection. Haug, a native of Lee’s Summit, Mo., led the MIAA in blocks (158, 1.22 per game) and ranked second in the league in points (608, 4.71 pg) and third in hitting percentage (.338). She also had 492 kills (3.81 pg) and was a first-team selection on the All-MIAA team.

Third-team honors went to senior setter Kaci Young, while junior Katie Tarka was an honorable mention pick at defensive specialist/libero.

Young, a native of Littleton, Colo., registered 1682 assists, the fourth-best total in school history. She added 120 kills, 377 digs, and 78 total blocks (10 solo, 68 assists). She also became the Jennies’ career record holder with 5,687 assists.

Tarka actually moved to outside hitter late in the season, but not before becoming CMSU’s all-time record holder in digs. A native of St. Charles, Mo., she finished the 2005 campaign with 612 digs. She also had 23 service aces, 169 kills, and 24 total blocks (three solo, 21 assists).

The Jennies finished the 2005 campaign with a record of 26-10, 12-4 and third in the MIAA. Central Missouri advanced to the South Central Region tournament finals for the fourth consecutive season.
