Jennies sweep competition at West Florida Crossover
The 10th ranked Jennies of Central Missouri came out of the weekend 4-0 at the West Florida Crossover in Pensacola. They defeated Arkansas-Monticello 3-2, West Florida 3-0, Albany State 3-0, and Montevallo 3-1.
In the opening match against UAM, the Jennies rolled to a 30-19 opening game win before falling in the next two frames 28-30. The fourth game saw CMSU take a 30-12 win before closing the match out 15-10 in the decider. Jillian Ohrman and Andrea Robertson had 16 kills apiece while Katie Tarka totaled up a season-high 44 digs. Ashlei Jandrey had 35 assists in the outing to lead that category.
The Jens dominated West Florida (30-17, 30-26, 30-26) in the night match on Friday. Brooke Butler had 17 kills while Ohrman hit .520 in the match. The CMSU defense, led by Tarka (20 digs), held UWF to only a .129 hitting percentage on the night. Caitlin Pankratz led CMSU in assists with 24.
On day two, CMSU coasted against 1-11 Albany State (30-12, 30-10, 30-10). The Jens hit a season-high .522 as a team in the match while holding ASU to .042. Ohrman had 15 kills on 22 attempts while Jacquelyn Williams picked up 11 on only 16 attempts. Pankratz finished with 25 assists on the day while CMSU was forced to make only 45 digs in the match.
The final match of the tournament was against Montevallo (30-17, 30-18, 25-30, 31-29). The Jens coasted along until dropping the third game. They recovered in the final game from a 24-10 deficit to win the match however. Ohrman was really on in the match with 21 kills (.543 hitting percentage) while Pankratz and Jandrey chipped in with 24 and 25 assists, respectively. Tarka was solid again with 32 digs while Audrey Jensen chipped in with 16. CMSU held UM to a .081 hitting percentage.
Tarka averaged 7.36 digs per game during the tournament to earn MVP honors as a libero. She got herself within 92 digs of tying the NCAA-II career record and was also named MIAA Specialist of the Week for her efforts. Ohrman also landed a spot on the All-Tournament Team with her play. She hit at least .520 in every match of the weekend and extended her consecutive double-figure kills streak to 14 to start the season.
