Jens take care of Bearcats
The University of Central Missouri Jennies got off to their best start since 1999 with a 3-1 win over Southwest Baptist Monday night. UCM (21-3, 9-1 MIAA) was at that same record to start in 1999, the last year it won the MIAA title outright.
UCM rolled in the first game, using a spurt mid-way through to take a 30-21 decision. The Jens battled back to tie the second game at 28 before the Bearcats would score the next two points for their first game win since September of 1999 against UCM. Central Missouri, ranked 11th in the nation, powered past the Bearcats in the final two games (30-17, 30-21) to grab the win.
Jillian Ohrman led the attack with 15 kills while Caitlin Pankratz took the reins with 34 assists and 12 digs. Katie Tarka tallied 26 digs to lead the defense. As a team the Jennies hit .339 and had 74 kills compared to the Bearcats’ 53.
