LORELEE SMITH TO JOIN JENNIES VOLLEYBALL STAFF
WARRENSBURG, MO (July 22, 2002) Central Missouri
State Jennies volleyball coach Peggy Martin has announced the hiring of Lorelee (first
name pronounced LAURA LEE) Smith as the programs graduate assistant coach for the
2002 season. Smith was an outstanding player
at the University of North Carolina-Asheville, an NCAA Division I member of the Big South
Conference. She was a four-time All-Big South
selection as a setter and finished second in NCAA Division I in assists in 1996 and 1997. In 1997, Smith earned honorable mention
All-American honors. In addition to her
prowess on the court, Smith excelled in the classroom.
She was named Verizon Academic All-American in 1996 and 1997. In 1998, she earned her bachelors degree in
Management/Marketing from North Carolina-Asheville posting a grade point average of 3.8.
We are pleased to welcome a person the caliber of Lorelee to
our program, Martin said. She was
a terrific student-athlete and we are excited to have her working with our program.
Smith has spent the last three seasons as junior varsity volleyball
coach at Adams High School in South Bend, Indiana. She
will be working towards her MBA at Central. Smith
joins Flip Piontek and Mindy Sullivan on Peggy Martins staff. The Jennies will open the season on August 30th
at the Nebraska-Omaha Tournament. The first
home match for the Jennies in 2002 will be Tuesday, September 3rd at 7:00 p.m.
hosting Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
