| Jennies Open MIAA Season on the Road Warrensburg,
Mo. (Sept. 11, 2000) -- Now it's time to get down to business. After fashioning a
9-2 record in three successive weekend events, the Central Missouri State University
Jennies begin the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association portion of their
volleyball season this week with three matches on the road.
The Jennies, who have won all 18 previous conference championships and are favored to
make it 19 in a row this season, will play their opening MIAA match Wednesday night at 7
p.m. at Washburn University. Friday night they play at 7 p.m. at Pittsburg State
University, then Saturday at 11 a.m. at Missouri Southern State College.
Coach Peggy Martin's Jennies are an amazing 62-2 in MIAA matches covering the last four
seasons. Washburn handed CMSU its only MIAA loss in 1996, then the Jennies went 16-0 in
1997 and 1998 before finishing 15-1 in 1999, losing a match to Truman State University.
All of the other MIAA teams already have played at least two league matches and only
Missouri Western State College at 3-0 and Truman at 2-0 are unbeaten in league play.
Washburn is 1-2, but took both Missouri Western and Truman to five games in home matches
last week. Pittsburg State is 0-3 in the league and Missouri Southern is 1-1.
At last weekend's CMSU Invitational, the Jennies won each of their three matches in
four games over Arkansas Tech University, Henderson State University and Quincy
University. Senior Rhea Griffin and junior Janell Mohme were CMSU's representatives on the
all-tournament team. Griffin led the Jennies with 44 kills in the three matches, while
Mohme had 40. |
