Jennies Play Three Straight at Home

Warrensburg, Mo. (Sept. 19, 2000) -- After starting the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association portion of their volleyball season with three straight road wins, the Central Missouri State University Jennies look to continue their winning ways at home this week.

The Jennies take on Southwest Baptist University Wednesday (Sept. 20) at 7 p.m., meet Northwest Missouri State University Friday (Sept. 22) at 7 p.m. and play Missouri Western State College Saturday (Sept. 23) at 11 a.m. All three matches will be played in the CMSU Multipurpose Building.

Southwest Baptist is 1-8, 1-2 in the MIAA. Northwest Missouri is 10-4 overall, 2-2 in the conference. Missouri Western, the current league-leader at 4-0 (8-4 overall), entertains second-place Truman State University Wednesday night and plays at Southwest Baptist Friday night before coming to Warrensburg Saturday.

Coach Peggy Martin's Jennies (12-2, 3-0 MIAA and ranked 16th in the NCAA Division II) are an amazing 65-2 in MIAA matches dating back through the 1996 season. They currently have a modest 12-match win streak at home.

The Jennies' last home loss was to NAIA powerhouse Columbia (Mo.) College in 1998. Their current MIAA home-match win streak stands at 25 and dates back to 1996, when Washburn University handed them their only league loss of the season in five games.

The Jennies have won 31 straight matches against Southwest Baptist, with the Lady Bearcats' only win in their last 32 tries coming in 1977. CMSU has also claimed 31 straight against Northwest Missouri, with the Bearcats' last victory coming in 1984. Against Missouri Western, the Jennies have captured the last 10 matches, with the Lady Griffons' last triumph coming in 1994.

Junior Janell Mohme leads the Jennies in kills with 153 and paces the MIAA in blocks with 85. Freshman Trudy Carter is second on the squad in kills with 146. Senior Mandy Feldmann has the team's top hitting percentage at .313. Senior Rhea Griffin is CMSU's leader in digs with 212. Junior Robyn Griffin is averaging 11.94 assists, which is tops in the conference.
