Peggy Martin Reaches 800th Career Volleyball Coaching Win

Warrensburg, Mo. (Sept. 25, 1999) -- Central Missouri State University women's volleyball coach Peggy Martin recorded her 800th career coaching victory Friday night (Sept. 24) when the Jennies beat Northwest Missouri State University 15-12, 14-16, 15-13, 15-11 in Maryville. Martin is the first coach in NCAA Division II volleyball history to reach 800 career wins.

She is only the fourth volleyball coach to reach 800 wins on any NCAA level. Andy Banachowski at UCLA and Elaine Michaelis at Brigham Young in Division I and Larry Bock at Juniata (Pa.) in Division III are the only other coaches to achieve 800 career wins in NCAA volleyball history.

A native of Mobile, Ala., Martin is in her 24th season as head volleyball coach, all at Central Missouri. Friday night's milestone win improved her career record to 800-199-8, a .798 winning percentage. Her teams have won 17 consecutive Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) conference championships and made 16 consecutive NCAA Division II tournament appearances.

This season the Jennies are 12-3 and ranked 15th in Division II. Friday night's MIAA win was CMSU's 38th straight conference victory dating back to 1996.
