Mules' Matt Johnson Named to Wrestling All-Academic Team

Warrensburg, Mo. (Mar. 16, 2000) - Central Missouri State University wrestler Matt Johnson, a junior from Jefferson City, Mo. (Jefferson City H.S.), has been named to the NCAA Division II All-Academic Wrestling Team selected by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Johnson's selection marks the third straight campaign he has been either a first-team or second-team choice. He was a first-team member last season and a second-team pick two years ago.

Johnson was 28-18 this season at 174 pounds and placed fourth at the NCAA Division II Championships. His career record at Central Missouri is 85-57. He has a 3.65 grade point average and is majoring in social studies.

Receiving honorable mention recognition for the Mules on the all-academic team were sophomores Jason Means (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty, Colo., H.S.) and Kelly Lepert (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny H.S.) and red-shirt freshman Terry Sanders (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central H.S.). Means was 15-11 this season, while Lepert was 3-6 and Sanders was 4-2.

To be eligible for nomination, a wrestler must have a minimum 3.00 GPA and be at least in his second year in school.
